Assyrians returning to Bakhdida city

I hope they secure the town very good so people return home.

yes and the most realistic way for that to happen is to monitor sunni muslims and give everybody (except sunnis) a gun, even if it's just a pistol.

"Qaraqosh" reminds me of the Arabic word "Qaraqos" used for coned iced cream. Are the two related?

Qaraqosh is Turkish for "black crow" I think. The town's real is Bakhdida either way.

Black does mean "kara" (Turkish doesn't have Q btw). Crow isn't showing up as "kosh". Though both crow and raven are showing up as "Kara Karga" (black raven/crow). Karga is crow.

Not sure where did they get "Kosh" from...

kosh is bird, I forgot to include that.

Imagine Bartella, Karamlesh and Bakhdida grow to the point where they combine and become 1 big city, what should the new city be called?

Akkad.

Just a homage to the ancient capital (archaeologists aren't sure where it exactly was).

Great pictures!

Read today that the Iraqi government has agreed to pay every returning family 1.5 million Iraqi dinar (which is only about $1250 USD) but it is a good start. I would triple that to at least 5 million or even 10 million dinars. Then and only then would it be enough to convince more people to come back and start fresh. This in additional to compensations for any losses their homes and properties.

I have to ask, has a Nineveh Plains government been created yet? They have to create a government if they're serious about making it a region.

Once the meeting at the round-table starts, then talks for Nineveh Plains governance will start.
the meeting has to be done soon while they can. Without a form of government, any talk of a province or region is just that, talk.
