Assyrians and customer service

God love our people, but I swear sometimes they make me want to dig a hole and jump in.  Here is a fine example of Soorayeh and their customer service skills:

We have a meeting at work today.  Someone suggested we order food through the Assyrian club.  They have a nice restaurant there and this person said it was really good.  I didn't really want to do it because deep down I just knew something would go wrong.  Lo and behold the conversation that took place between my colleague and the person at the club's restaurant:

club:  "Hello" (as if min iqreh d'nato)
colleague: "Hi, is this the Assyrian club?"
club:  "Who is this?!" (in angry tone)
colleague:  "Uh, we wanted to order some lunch to go please"
club: "we not open now, call back at 12:00"
colleague: "oh, well, our meeting starts at 11:30, we were hoping to have the food before then"
club:  "we not open now, call back at 12:00" CLICK

So now we're ordering lunch for 13 people from a Chinese restaurant  :bangin:

is this the same genius place that closes at 3pm and opens at 5pm again...........

Yeah, that's nap time.  Years ago I remember an Assyrian bakery in town here.  They actually had mattresses visible behind the counter and it was not unusual to walk in and see one (or more) of the employees snoring away mid-afternoon. They weren't in business long.

I was actually hearing this conversation in my head with an chinese accent  :giggle:

I don't understand these people, don't they want the business? Why are they opening at 12?  :bangin:

why didnt you just talk in assyrian??

Actually, the colleague came and asked me to call, hoping if I called and spoke in Assyrian it might make a difference.  It didn't.  And I'm glad it didn't -- can you imagine what my co-workers' reaction would have been had I been given better treatment?

At least you know they don't discriminate against who they are rude to. They are assholes to everyone.

I called right after my co-worker did, and this was around 10:00 this morning.  I don't know, I guess I'm not used to that kind of service.  Had this been any other restaurant I wouldn't even think of ever going there.  And when you're in the service industry you are supposed to treat people a certain way no matter who they are.  We have these meetings on a semi-regular basis, and the person who organizes them usually takes care of the logistics.  We don't have the Mexican call the Mexican restaurant or the Greek call the Greek place.  We shouldn't be any different.

Oh well, it's not like their business is suffering.  The club runs it and it's always filled with old men playing backgammon and eating in there, so I guess they can afford to lose a few nikhrayeh here and there.

When I used to work in retail, I used to have to give a speech about customer service to at least one person everyday.  God knows how many times I had to apologize to customers too.

Well when i was in MI, I cant deny that i've had the best chaldean customer service.

My best friend and I walked to the chaldean resturant (we had no car & the weather was freezing)... The owner would not let us pay because we were out of town & gave us a ride back home.
