Hassaka, Syria (AINA) -- The Assyrian village of Tel Hormizd was attacked on Saturday, July 27 at about midnight. Fifty Arab Muslims on motorcycles entered the village and began a shooting rampage. According to residents, the Muslims fired indiscriminately, wounding two Assyrians, one of whom is still in hospital. The Assyrians repelled the attack by shooting at the Muslims. It is not known if any of the attackers was injured.

This is the third and largest attack on the village of Tel Hormizd in two months. The Assyrians believe the attackers are from nearby villages, and are attempting to frighten the Assyrians into abandoning their villages so that they may be expropriated.

Attacks have also occurred on other Assyrian villages in the area.

I read this earlier. Good for them for responding to the attack. But I am afraid they will outnumber and have more weapons than our Assyrians in the village. But if it is just ordinary Syrians (and not aided by terrorists) then such a response from the Assyrians will make these thieves think twice about coming back. They thought Assyrians will not put up a fight.

p.s: This belongs in the news section better.

oh great!....

I think it's brave what the Assyrians did, but for how long? they can't beat their enemies (arabs/syrians) ... they don't have enough: money, weapons, support, etc etc

it's better for them to leave than to be forced to convert to Isalm!

I am living in the safe west and we cant really tell the people what to do when beeing in such areas. BUT please lets just stop having this...run for your life mentality. Some of us have guts and they try to stand against whoever is attacking them.

lets just be proud of them and seek for some ways to give them anykind of support.

do you mean me Rumtaya? .. have the guts to say my name ;)

1. exactly for that reason you can't imagine what they're going through! because you're living in the "safe" west! while THEY are NOT in the "safe" west you're talking about! ....so it's kinda irresponsible for someone to live in a safe place and wish for his brothers and sisters to live in "bad" places!

2. you do know, that no matter how long we pray for them and say "help them, help them, Support.." no one would actually listen nor do it!!  and they will always be alone! they will always suffer.. and we will always be sitting in front of a screen, just typing words on a Keyboard, while they will Keep dying..

No it wasnt for you. I was just stating it on a general level. we all know (i have family there), how bad the situation is.

however there are many people who have so much there, they worked their whole lofe hard for it. some even do not wish to leave. thats when i say, there mist be some ways to support them.

Its a very difficult and hard situation, from which running away is of course the easiest way, but its not the way which all want to go (i.e. some of us...those in the hoemland..have the guts to stay there and work the best way out of the actually situation).

so please dont take it personal. if you felt like i was attacking you personall, then i ask for forgiveness.

best regards

no no, no Problems :) I just felt like you were talking to me cause I was the only one who wrote "they should all just leave.."

it's because I also live in the safe west and I always think that it's just not fair for me to tell others to stay in their Homeland and defend it while I lay back here safe and sound! :( we can't afford another massacre! they are killing us like sheep!.......

I realize one should defend their Homeland but it's too late! we should have done it YEARS ago!...how are (almost) 2 million Assyrians going to be able to defend themselves against 30 Million syrians/kurds/enemies ??

Our people in those villages should ask for hel from PKK, and I believe PKK will do everything to protect our villages....

they should not ask for help, but more for working coordinated together. Anyway i am sureour people in the homeland will know what is best for them as they know the situation much better then we.

The war still going on btw Jabhat al Nasr(Terorists) and the Kurds. The Kurds had been able to keep them outside but they still trying coming in to kurdish area. The  questions is what if Jabahat al nars succ?s to get into those region? what will happen to our umta? they are really terrfying our people over there..

jabhat al nusra is around the villages of the acoe members. there are not big problems yet. however it depends on the participation of the assyrians in this kurdish vs islamists war. there are yet no declerations done by any assyrian party in which they would state what side they take.

That is smart on their part. It is not about being courageous and taking sides, because you know our numbers are small relative to the other side so we could easily be wiped.

If anything, Assyrians should stay neutral as long as they can, while using the time to arm themselves and be ready to defend against any future attack, while the other sides kill each other and suffer casualties.

Jabaht Al Nasr are trying, and I dont think they wud be able to wipe out the kurds. The kurds are enough strong espeically PKK(PYD). But what if the Kurds claim for help from Assyrians? we can?t stay neutral all the way? we have pick one side....

well considering relations with Kurdish Syrians and the Alawite government; it's a tough decision, but I say side with the Kurds on this one

If we side with the Alawite government, whether the Alawite government loses or wins, Assyrians of Syria will meet social stigma for a long time, but not as much social stigma if we side with the Kurds, not just that.

But it'll show the Iraqi Kurds how teamwork actually looks, and may or may not treat the Iraqi Assyrians better.

but this is just my analysis, I'm not 100% sure.
