WOW great bro!
I will be there hopefully, along with my camera. I hope a lot of Assyrians show up. This is the closest we can get to having our own Assyriska here!

This is now linked to our home page, hope lots of people read it.

I think everyone in here from Toronto or GTA should go and it could be a mini gathering  :giggle: but more fun.

Thanks Ashoor for the help with the link to the AVN home page. It is exciting time.

Basil is still one of the coaches of the team. He played for Nineveh Star in 1993 and 1994 season.

I plan to come and bring as many of my friends and cousins as possible.

Once we are done from the game, we will cross to the CNE ;)

Here are some pictures from the game. There were a lot of fans there, specially our people. We brought our flag out.

Actually these were pictures from a game at BMO between USA and Uruguay. Assyrians did not show up. Only supporters of Etobicoke Canadians. Our people only cared that day about Linda George's picnic. Sorry, but Assyrians (Chaldeans) in Canada just care about parties and picnics. They can care less what others are doing for the community. That is why I salute our people in Europe. They have a professional soccer team, they hold incredible rallies and festivals and are very involved in government issues and policies realted to our people. Name me one thing we have done in North America. Any ways it is just frustrating when no one cares.

Sad to hear they had no fans. I attended the picnic  I could see where your coming from about us here in Toronto and i agree we do like to go to picnic and party more..but isn't attending a picnic for the church still helping our community?

Did they win the game?

You know, I'm actually in Sweden right now. I'll be going to the Assyriska game. The blame in my opinion goes both ways.

Granted we as Assyrians need to step up and show our support, but the soccer team needs to do its part. Its one thing to just say, "oh hey guys, we got a game show up!". There needs to be some sort of a marketing campaign or a marketing/promotional push. The picnics always have had great marketing and their reach on people has been huge. Whereas the soccer guys, unfortunately, they just haven't stepped up.

Even still though, the Assyrians need to start supporting guys like this. They're a great bunch of guys, I know a few of them, and they need our support. Besides, who's Linda George anyway?

Thank you cuttie! Church comes first!

buhbye

Assy Gal: I was not trying to slam any picnic but for the fact that a picnic to you and 2000 others was more important than to watch a team representing you in once in a lifetime opportunity in a brand new soccer stadium.

To support my argument:
- percentage of  attendees (maybe half) at both picnics are not there to support the entity that is holding the activity but to just to be there and be part of it.
- It is sad to not even see one sole at the game. I did not expect hundreds but maybe 10 would have done it, but did  not expect no one.

riza o shourba has a point with marketing and we will work on that.

Well, My dear friends, let's not slam the picnics please as they generate revenue to the Church and Zowaa and most of all, it is a way where we gather one day during the week and throw all our troubles aside and enjoy some good times together.

What happened with Nineveh Star is lack of marketing. No one knew they were playing that day and even if they did, who is going to go watch a team that has put us to shame among other communities (Portuguese, Ethiobian, Canadian, Italians, and others in the league) and want the people to glorify them on top of it all.
The team is with 5 points after 11 games in the season (that is 1 win, 2 ties, and 8 loses). YES 5 points!!!!! And even these 5 points were only accomplished after ONE; yes one, player from the Winged Bull soccer Team decided to join them half way through the season for the sake of going to the convention and to prove a point.

I am ashamed to say that we have a team like that in the league. At least the Winged Soccer Team (the other good team in Toronto) had the dignity to say No team if players don't come to practice. And stuck by it.

Plus, I see in the pictures about 14 or 15 players +2 or 3 coaches. Which means that we can put at least 36 to 40 people in the stands if each one of them, not us, brings two people each.

Look at yourself brothers before you start slamming people down.

I was there and noticed the handful of Assyrians (including myself) exit after you guys were getting pumped. And what do you do after? You go and get pumped some more at the Picnic with a team of U17 boys from Detroit 2-0.

They say: too p'chela o hamzim doos.

Don't take this the wrong way brother acana, but you started the slamming. My comments are merely constructive criticism.
