Anyone have more info on this?  Rumors are flying over here that he was shot by another Assyrian.  If true, that's the second murder in a month.

Victim in Fatal Shooting in Scottsdale Parking Lot Identified

Police have identified the victim of a Sunday night slaying in Scottsdale as Rami Merza, 32, of Gilbert.

A 32-year-old man was arrested in connection with the Sunday night shooting, but police would not release the suspect's name, citing concerns that it could jeopardize an ongoing investigation.

A spokesman said investigators have not yet determined a motive for the shooting, nor the relationship between the suspect and the victim. Merza and the suspect reportedly had been in a parked car around 11:30 p.m. in a common parking lot shared by retail businesses at the northwest corner of Raintree Drive and Loop 101, police said.

A witness who was servicing a nearby restaurant reported hearing gunshots and seeing one of the men leave the car, according to police documents.

Officers found Merza inside the car with multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

After a brief foot chase, the suspect was captured by police near the shooting scene.

I'm not sure, but I heard my dad talking about some guy got shot. I can ask my dad about it later on if I see him, but I think it was a different guy. Its pretty crazy how many shootings there are, but that is what it comes down to I guess. Yet, its sad...

Yep, another Assyrian-on-Assyrian killing.  I know the murderer too.  A$$hole.

Woh!! A drug dealer getting shot to death inside a car in the parking lot of a strip mall by the psychotic nephew of a well-known sleazy Assyrian figure. This story has got all the ingredients of a full-blown scandal.

It just screams TMZ!!! lol

If the victim's family are who I think they are, they're crazy.  I've seen them beat the crap out of people over reesheh d'khigga.  Their men are all huge, scary looking Jilwayeh.  And their women are even worse.  I'd be scared.

Dadesho, who showed signs of being under the influence of an unknown drug, told detectives that Merza was in the Scottsdale parking lot that night for a 50-pound marijuana deal. Merza was found with a small amount of marijuana in his front pocket

Alaha manikhle, and may God help his family through this.

But let us face it guys, and I don't care if we sound like cold-hearted for saying this or not: This is one of these things that needed to happy in order to get rid of something else that would have been worse. With his death, you have eliminated two people who would have otheriwse been bad to their community and society. I wish it didn't have to come to this, and that for both to have just been put in prison. But let us look at this from a different prospective.

Our society has enough problems already, and don't need more problems, like drug dealing and cold murder. One has got has sad fate, while the other will soon too.

Baklawa, I think it is better to change the topic, since we now know what actually happened.

may he RIP and the families cope with the loss.

I don't like the fact that they are drug dealers and carrying around guns to begin with. It's sad to see a second case in our community within the start of the new year. We can't seem to keep our names out of the news and it's all negative.

Weed is the same as tobacco!  So do we condemn all Assyrians that sell tobacco and alcohol too?  Whatever...  Get over it.

Actually AB, and maybe this is because I live in Canada, but we hadn't been in the news in some time now. In news for a bad reason that is. Unfortunately, this is the third Assyrian that gets killed in North America in the last 3 months :

January 2009: an Assyrian killed in Toronto
February 2009: an Assyrian killed in Chicago
March 2009: an Assyrian killed in Ariznoa,

In the last two, it is sad and unfortunate that Assyrians were involed in the killing, or assumed to be.

3 in 3 months: that is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many. And I am assuming and hoping these are the only ones, and no other ones which we haven't heard about.

No no Jonadana, with all due respect, you got it wrong here. I was hoping someone wouldn wouldn't start this, but you did.

Here is my reply: when was the last time an Assyrian killed another Assyrian over a cigarette? better yet, when was the last time a non-Assyrian killed another person over a cigarette (maybe one in a 100 million, if any)

Drugs lead to killings, please, no two ways about it. I don't care how worse or better weed is compared to tobacco, it is just the way it is: one is expensive and one is not, and obviously people will do anything to get weed.

Just look at what is happenening in Mexico: all these horrible killings and beheadings have to do with drugs, and not cigarettes.

Same with this murder and thousands of other murders that get committed because of stupid drugs.

ASHOOR

People who take drugs may not be bad people of course. But we all know what they can lead to, if not controlled.

Almost all last three Assyrian murders had something to do with drugs (the victim or the killers)

It is as clear as 1 + 1 = 2

ASHOOR

Drugs don't kill other people...  Just stupid people kill other people.

You know how many deaths are related to Alcohol and tobacco?  I'm not even talking about cancer.

Don't let the government influence your thinking Ashoor.  Just because it's not mainstream and legal by the government, doesn't mean it's forbidden and doesn't happen all around you everyday.

Anyway, it's almost legal in all states (will be pretty soon), so senseless murders like this will be reduced (but never over).
