We know that we borrow a lot of music from our neighbors (Kurds, Persians, Turks, Arabs, and Armenians), but it would be cool to make a list of these songs and post the equivalent songs in the other languages, here I'll start with a few, you guys can keep adding:

- Linda George - Itkhae D'Khoubbi : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLjirIBpQxA
- Googoosh - Ne'mate Eshgh (Persian) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5ZL8Oz-2_E

- Linda George - Hal Eman : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWfncvPCuvg
- Sattar - Nefrin (Persian) : http://www.4shared.com/file/9474082/3e749881/Sattar_-_Nefrin.html

- Sargon Gabriel - Yalla Brata : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8UJGNez7LM
- Ibrahim Tatlisis - Yalla Shofer (Turkish) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlrB1yeb1EM
- Hassan Zirak - Yalla Shofer (The original in Kurdish) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v24Z434-NsY

Keep posting them......

Interesting topic.  Nice to hear them.  I remember being in a Kurdish restaurant in Spain and a song came on that I immediately recognized as a Janan Sawa song....that is until the guy started singing in Kurdish.

I don't think I would call the thread Assyrian Music Plagiarism though, cause I don't believe it's plagiarism.  People record other peoples' songs in their own language all the time.  I've heard Spanish songs that were originally Greek or Turkish songs and it's perfectly acceptable.  The Spanish actually prefer it because it's in their own language and they can understand it.  Maybe Assyrian Cover Tunes would be better.

Ok, changed the topic.

As far as Janan goes, most of his early works (And even late works for that matter) comes from Kurdish folk music, I'll try to look up some and post them here.

Janan Sawa "Naze Naze":

Turkish (Originally Kurdish) singer Izzet Altinmese:

Izzet sings a lot of old folk songs that have been redone by many Assyrian singers.

I don't know who even remembers Melis Ishaya's songs from the 80's, but he did a lot of Shahram Shabpareh songs.  "Si Makha" by Sargon Rasho was also a Shahram song.

It used to really upset/disappoint me because I felt like our singers were not only stealing, but not developing their own creativity and talent.  It's not all that bad I guess, since they are rewriting lyrics in Assyrian.

The Evin Aghassi hit "Khazadeh" was also taken from one of Sattar's songs, I don't understand Farsi though, so I can't find which one it is.

I'm pretty sure you guys heard this song in Assyrian weddings, it's actually an Armenian wedding song:

Jermaine Tamraz - Kha Youma Khishkana

Googoosh - Gharib Ashena

Linda George - La Bassa, has Persian origins. I don't know the name of the song though but I heard it once.

Elizabeth Oshana had several songs with non-Assyrian roots.

Sargon Gabriel - Khobakh Saprana

Farid Al-Atrash - Sa'a Fi Orb Al-Habib

Armenians have taken music from us too.

It still upsets me.  If I wanted to hear kurdish/turkish/whatever music, I'd know where to find it.  I'd like to hear original Assyrian music.  Our singers whine that they don't get the respect and credit they deserve, and they are right to a certain extent.  At the same time, I think they (some, certainly not all) need to take their craft more seriously and produce authentic Assyrian music, rather than lazily translating existing music into Assyrian.

I too am in a large group and only one or two of us got the ballot Thankfully my boyfriend was one of them.

Caktin, the tickets are 240 from memory and I think you can purchase 4 per person. But dont
