Assyrian historical names, avoided?

In America it's true you don't really see too many Assyrian names. We mostly use biblical names, which as 7ayrutha said religion is already a part of our culture. What's wrong with naming the boy Matthew, Luke, Mark, John, Patrick, Nicholas, Peter, Simon, Eddie....

They are all in the bible and probably all have an Assyrian spelling and pronounciation. For example: Matt/Matthew=Mattai, John=You7anan, Simon=Shim'on, Eddie=Yalda...

Yes but I want to add something to my point. Even though Christianity is part of our culture, that doesn't mean that we will give our children all the names that the Bible contains. Would you name your son "Kalb"?

There is a culture in Biblical name giving too. Second.. If giving biblical names, then atleast keep their originial form. Why Eddie if as you said Yalda is the correct one (I know that Yalda is a girl name, just trying to prove my point).

Btw.. Nicolas is not a Biblical name as far as i know? It's just the name of a Greek/Byzantine saint ("santa claus").

Yeah I know you can't just pick something random from the bible like Barabas lol. Well Ive heard that the name 'Adel is the guy version of Yalda.

Nicholas is probably not in the bible, but he is a saint according to our faith. Like Teresa might not be in the bible, but people might want to name their daughter after Mother Teresa.
