Assyrian Album covers are Primitive

I was told this by my cousin who is an artist (painter), he said one day I talked to a famous Assyrian singer (name withheld) and told him an idea, I said you know what I was thinking of doing, before you release your new album, let me hear one of your songs ie: lyrics, and I would turn it into a painting, and then you can put the painting as the cover of your album?
You would think the singer would love this fresh and original idea? But instead the singer said, oh no?I will just put my photo on cover! Wow what an original idea!!!

The Western musicians are the only once who have moved away from this unimaginative, primitive and self-absorbed idea. Middle eastern musicians including of course Assyrians are still in amazement with it.

Let me take you on a short journey through some beautiful and idealistic covers (examples)?

In conclusion, and this is my personal opinion, They say singers have a message, and I know that many of our singers have 20+ albums, imagine each time an album was released there was also a message released and artistically and professionally depicted on the cover?
A message (cover) depicting the Massacre of Semele?
A Message (cover) depicting the assassination of Mar Benyamin Shomon?
A Message (cover) depicting the attacks on our Churches in Iraq?
A Message (cover) depicting the great Genocide of WWI? Unity, Nationalism, on and on?But all we got after all these years is a guy looking back at you in portrait!

Another good music post Moneer, good job!

I agree, and even if they are going to put their picture, let it be something nice, artistic and creative. Here is what comes to mind: Michael Jackson's 1991 album cover.

i know a little too much for us lol, but still nice enough I think. And you can still see MJ's face there...

:ROFLMAO:

i think they just want for people to know who is singing thats why they put it!

dont they!!  :blush2:

Thank you for all your posts. I understand what you mean, but you are probably talking about new singers?
But I am talking about very, very known singers, those we call legends! Just reading their names on cover you will instantly know them.

Anyway they can still put their pictures on the back or Inlay.

That Michael cover is a very good example too.

oh! hmm!........well thats different!

i think its easy to make such covers! isnt it!!!! (i mean..all u gotta do is paint something, and decorate it in somehow) and then just post it! (if am not wrong!)  :blush2:

I don?t think painting is easy? atleast the good once, look for example at the MJ cover above, I don?t think many Assyrian painters can paint that good. And I don?t like the PhotoShop covers too, unless they are original and done well.

But my point was, that our covers should have a message too, not only pictures of singers ?Saying? Hay look at me I am growing Old and Going Bold?you can always put your picture on back cover or inlay?

Moneer, we have good graphic designers out there. However, it seems as though the photographer takes it upon himself to create something. Personally, our artists should venture away from their face on a cover and go for more artistic/color inspired layouts.

This is not an Assyrian Label, but a Heavy Metal band, just look at those amazing Graphics, a true Assyrian Garden of Art!

I agree 100% I hate the covers. Especially those of Juliana Jendo with her fake smile. I mean can you be a little more creative? Like this one:

. Okay you see his face but it is different.

Oh and there are a lot of good Assyrian painters. And with the digital programs you can make it your own either, without using paintings.

They lack creativity,
I just finished designing a new Cd cover for an up coming new singer. after many long nights behind
the computers, he still decided to use his own pic on the cover. the original design for the Cd and the poster was
appreciated by many of his friends.
By the way I am talking from experience, as I am a graphic designer.

your story is the same as my friend’s story the painter.

Now I don't mind an album cover with the singers being in it. But they should just look more creative when they're on the cover. The cover art should be more 'artistic' and decorative in nature. I don't want a plain Facebook-looking photo on it.

Again, as what others said, Assyrians and its singers are still obscure. They just want to be known and identifiable. They are no Michael Jackson, where you'd know it's him just by reading his name.
