Why did many of our syriac forefathers say we are the descendants of the arameans? Mor afrem and many more said that, were they embaressed of their assyrian heritage, didnt they know history? I know the bible said assyrians were the enemy of god, was that why? This was at the time of the roman empire around 200-1000 ad that our forefathers lived.....

Julius Hanna Aydin is the founder of the Aramean movement, he's the one who said "our ancestors are Aramean".

He already admitted that he made it up and that the church has no Aramean descendency to it.

After he admitted everything was made up, Arameanists attacked and roughed him up for it.

Julius Aydin said he made up the Aramean movement.

Here's the entire video interview where he admitted it all.

his reasons were that Assyrian nationalists weren't respecting him, also because some Assyrian nationalists (according to him) said that becoming a scholar doesn't make them Syriac, it makes them Assyrian in which I do agree with him is ignorant to say but the damage has already been done.

Truth of course is that Syrian == Assyrian == Suraya == Ashuraya. all four words come from the same origin. Syriac could be Assyriac and it'd still be the same.

Aramaye did not come from Mesopotamia, they come from Damascus region. Arameans are a Levantine people.

When Assyrians converted to Christianity, so did the Arameans that existed. Alot of them even joined the Assyrian churches.

Some even became Patriarka. Many non-Assyrians were Patriarka, for example, Patriarch of the Church of the East Mar Yahballah III wasn't Assyrian or Middle Eastern, he was Turkic from Beijing, China!

So what makes us Assyrian? Our language for starters. Syriac was born in Mesopotamia. It would make no sense for Arameans to speak Syriac unless they were trying to speak with Assyrians. Our traditions, and the fact that "Arameans" are talking about Mesopotamia which proves that they're Assyrian.

Arameans invented Aramaic, why would they adopt a foreign dialect like Syriac unless they speak to Assyrians?

Secondly, Aram Nahraim is a Hebrew word, not Aramaic. Assyrians use Beth Nahrain, ancient Akkadian-speaking Assyrians called Aramean homeland "eber nari".

The living Arameans today don't speak Syriac, they speak Western Aramaic. If you try to speak Syriac to them, they will not understand you, not even if you talk slowly.

Animals.

If anything, our Aramaic language does come from Arameans.
