First off, for those that don't know, 'Arab Idol' (much like American Idol) is arguably the most watched show in the Arab world, and by far.

Yesterday, the fourth season wrapped up. So who won? well, it depends on who you ask.

-Assyrians are saying' an Assyrian From Bethlehem Wins Arab Idol Competition'
-Arabs will say 'A Christian Arab won it'
-Palestinians will say 'A Palestinian won Arab idol'
-And then you have Syriacs who will proudly say 'A Syriac Orthodox won Arab idol'

As you can see, each is claiming him as their own. So do Assyrians have a case? Well, for one, he is Syriac and by extension that would make him an Assyrian, right? well I hope and believe so... but problem is, I don't think or believe (I may be wrong) that he has ever come out to say he is Assyrian. Heck I don't know even know we exist (well I am sure he does, but you get my point...)

Having said that, I am still happy and proud that someone from our own culture (whether he admits to being Assyrian or not) has won this prestigious award which Arabs consider the ultimate award to win.

BTW, the winner is also a deacon in the Syriac Orthodox Church in Bethlaham

More about this: Assyrian From Bethlehem Wins Arab Idol Competition

He doesn't look full Assyrian to me. He could be half Assyrian and Palestinian Arab though. He has an Arab look to him.

So glad that he won. I thought Christian minorities were heavily ignored in the Arab media. I know there are Christian Egyptian actors, though.
