Mystery Surrounds Disappearance of Assyrian Finance Minister

Northern Iraq (AINA) -- The finance minister of the Kurdish region in northern Iraq, Mr. Sargis Aghajan, has not appeared publicly for more than three months. The otherwise very visible and public minister disappeared over night. In northern Iraq people have speculated for months about the reasons for the sudden disappearance of Mr. Aghajan. The formal reason provided by the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) says the finance minister had to leave the country for treatment. Sources in northern Iraq close to AINA give however another explanation to the matter.

"It's all about money. Billions of dollars are missing and there's a problem between the KDP and PUK about it. The best way for the KDP to solve the issue was to get rid of Sargis Aghajan," says one man with insight in KRG affairs on conditions of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue. "How are you going to go ahead with an investigation when the main witness is dead?"

Sargis Aghajan is of Assyrian origin and he was often used by KRG officials as an example of how democratic the KRG is, having an Assyrian as finance minister. Mr. Aghajan was also promoted by the KDP party as the new leader of the Assyrians in an attempt to undermine the leadership of the Assyrian Democratic Movement, the only independent Assyrian group in northern Iraq. Aghajan was therefore encouraged to spend millions on housing projects and other forms of aid to Assyrians.

The group named The Popular Council of Syriacs Chaldeans Assyrian, funded by the KRG finance ministry and promoted by Sargis Aghajan, participated in the current provincial election campaign under the name of "Ishtar slate."

A close relative of Mr. Sargis Aghajan revealed to AINA that the finance minister had begun to fear his fate several months ago. "Last time I spoke with him he was really worried. He said he feared they would kill him soon. He had tried to resign several times but was not allowed to do so. He said it was like a prison for him. 'My only job is to sign the papers they put in front of me' he once told me."

Sucks for him. Maybe this could be used as a lesson to other traitors, Kurds will only use you and after their done, your done.

I doubt that he's dead.  There would have been a huge funeral with every church leader in attendance, and KurdIshtar tv would have been blacked out for a good week.  Rumor had it he was seeking treatment in Europe for diabetes.  Who knows?

It's finally official: Aghajan is out as Finance Minister, and Baez Talabani is in.  Can we make some new medals?

Here's a rough translation of the relevant paragraph:

On the unification of the three ministries, he said: "The completion of the consolidation of the Interior Ministry did not return and left, but Interior Minister, who is out of the country on a private visit. It could be argued that the completion of the consolidation of the Ministry of Finance has not only left a small technical points will be announced soon, as will Baez Talabani the post of Minister of Finance. The Ministry of Peshmerga will be the announcement of the consolidation soon. "

At this difficult time, my thoughts go to all those a$$ kissers who have songs and poems ready to be released about this great man.

:ROFLMAO:

Seriously, though, where is he at?  It's like playing Where's Waldo?

He's been erased. The KRG website says "Mr [Bayiz Saeed] Mohammad was appointed Minister of State for Finance and the Economy in the unified cabinet on 7th May 2006. Born in Kirkuk in 1944, he is a career politician and a senior member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan."

I'm imagining Jodie Foster approaching the KRG with an anxious look on her face saying "but he was holding my hand when we walked in the plane, he then slept like a baby with his favourite teddy bear in his arms, what do you mean he's not even on the list???"

I kind of Miss Him.

There was something about that gap between his teeth that was just so.....  :shades: lol

78th point proven.

Keep going, I want to see how many items on the insult thread you can prove.

This is a funny thread haha.

I heard that he was beaten up, not sure by whom or why! haha.

Not only the medals, but what about the songs? Do they go down in the trash bin of history?

Should Zowaa recruit him? would it be a wise move? He would be put in charge of 'Kurdish affairs in the Nineveh Plains"

I don't know which Assyrian organization in its right mind would bring this traitor into its ranks.

I guess AINA received a nasty e-mail from a man named Alexander Sternberg regarding its article on Aghajan.  The man lives in Germany and claims he spoke with Aghajan in the hospital and that Aghajan told him to give AINA the middle finger for him.  Here's what's killing me.  I know I've heard of this Alexander Sternberg before.  His name is an alias and he used to post on AssyrianLink many, many years ago defending the kurds.  I can't recall his real name, but he's either an adviser to the Barazani clan, or some lobbyist on their behalf based in Europe.  God, I wish I had saved all those nasty e-mails I exchanged with that man.

We've only discussed this thousands of times, but I guess we can do it yet again since some people have trouble understanding. Maybe we'll just use smaller words this time.

1.  The same people that are in charge of it now, the KRG.  Did you think Aghajan was in charge of it before?  He simply did what his employers told him to do.

2.  Don't think there was much difference between the two, just that Hariri had a smaller role than Aghajan.  Had he been elevated to the same position as kaka sarkis and shoved down our throats as our appointed leader, I bet he would have received the same feedback.

3.  I don't think happy is the word, I could honestly care less about the man.  He is nothing to me.  I just find it amusing that certain people who invested our entire future in the hands of ONE man are twisting in the wind right now.

The man belonged to a kurdish political party with a mission of establishing their "homeland" on our lands, and using any means (including harassment and intimidation) to do so.  Aghajan is a puppet, plain and simple, used as a showcase to "prove" to the world that the kurds are tolerant.  He is what we in the US call an "Uncle Tom."  I don't know what definition you use to describe an umtanaya, but he wouldn't fit even the basic qualifications of one.  If he isn't a khayin, I don't know who is.

On a serious note, when will the KRG be done with playing house??

What a joke of a government! Must be like living in Disneyland, maybe Mickey has a higher IQ than the Prime Minister - all Mickey has to do is grow a moustache and Mickey is the new Prime Minister of the fantasy that is "Kurdistan".

I feel sorry Aghajan, must a bummer being an unemployed man in Turkey with all these medals in your suitcase!

Don't worry about my leeshana, worry about your lack of parmeta.  I am hardly the only one who understands, many people do get it.  It's the people who don't get it that have gotten us where we are today.
