10 thoughts on the win
1-We may not like his selections, subs and tactics at times, but Tite is a classy coach in every sense of the word and that was evidenced by his unprecedented decision to sub a third goalie in a knockout round, to ensure every player has had a hand in this (Wish CAP had done this with Ronaldo in 1994). He truly values team cohesion, loyalty and family more than he does tactics and for this the players pay him back in huge dividends.
2-VJ is pure class with his beautiful assists. When he scored his first goal of the WC, he wasn’t all ecstatic as if he just won the world. Cup. He was happy and calm, as if he knows he belong here while appreciating the opportunity.
3-We made a good unwritten deal with Korea: in exchange for not fouling or inuring any of our players, especially Neymar, we stopped running up the score. Good reciprocal deal.
4-Prior to the tournament and while I liked them both, I preferred Antony by a hair. But after what I have seen from Raphinha and how he is settling in and feeling more comfortable, I prefer him at that spot.
5-Based on what we have seen so far, Alisson is making all those difficult saves, and I hope he continues with this excellent form. While we knew he was a great world class goalie, he is known for these blunders at times. Today he made all the difficult saves except for that one deflection.
6-Korea is no super team but they did test our defence a lot and that was a welcome change, after not getting tested much first 3 games.
7-While no one in the whole tournament has the speed to catch up to Mbappe , if we were to play France in the final (still think England will beat them) , I have confidence in our back 4+GK to be able to withstand and contain him for the most part. That is yet to be seen of course and it is strictly based on what I have seen in 4 games. Not to mention our speedy winged who always track back when we lose the ball.
8-While I don’t make Neymar getting MOTM (thanks to Canteev, I had no idea these are voted by fans which explains why Messi keeps winning them even if he doesn’t do much.) I would have preferred VJ or Richarilson to win it. But this will hopefully motivate Neymar even more to keep going , especially after his injury scare.
9-Despite scoring 4 today, across the 4 games so far, we continue to be wasteful. But still good to see them much more efficient today.
10-Not sure if someone mentioned it , but Korea’s high tempo and speed may have caused Brazil to finally play with a bit more urgency.
Bonus: while Neymar is what connects our midfield , Vinicius is who does the dirty work at the tail end of the field and he doesn’t get nearly enough credit for that. He is already at 2 assists and some indirect ones.
