Assyrian Chatters
Interviews |
Name:
Shady Suraya
Date: October 13th, 2002
Hello and
welcome to our website:
first of all we would like you to introduce yourself
PERSONAL QUESTIONS
-Name:
Ninos Warda
-Nickname:
Shady Suraya
-Sex/age/location:
Male, 18, London United Kingdom
-What are your hobbies?
Well I love to read books about Assyrians and about Christianity. I enjoy
outdoor activities as well though like football (you North Americans wrongly
call soccer HeHe) and also the gym too.
-Are you an intrinsic or extrinsic type of person?
Hmm, I guess I’m both. I guess it depends what kind of people I’m around. I love
going to Assyrian functions and things like that but I also like being on my own
sometimes with some nice Ashur Sarjis music playing in the background, allowing
me to collect my thoughts HeHe.
-What do you hope your career will be?
Well I have my mind set on two things right now. I’m going to do Law at
university so I guess I’d like to go into the legal side of things, however I’m
also thinking of maybe going into Politics. The two are quite interchangeable so
I guess that can be easily arranged.
-Tell us about your personality? How much has it been shaped by both nature and
environment in which you live?
I guess your environment plays a major role in
shaping who you are going to be in the future. Luckily I have always lived in an
area where Assyrians are always around (I know some people don’t like this lol)
so I guess I’ve been brought up always around Assyrians so now I don’t think I
would be able to live in a place where there isn’t many Assyrians. I guess this
sums up my personality. I think too much though and sometimes take things too
seriously. I’m going to get grey hairs quick if I’m not careful lol.
"...I also like being on my own sometimes with some nice Ashur Sarges music playing in the background, allowing me to collect my thoughts..."
-Who is the closest member in your family to you?
I guess they all are. Don’t really have one who is closer to me then another.
-Do you think you possess or have something that girls look for? Or something
that girls look for but you don't have?
Lol I don’t think this is a question for me to answer but the girls themselves
=\
-Are you a religious or a spiritual person?
I like to think I’m a religious person. I guess we can only try our best
wherever we live, no one is perfect.
CHAT QUESTIONS
-Can you live without the internet? Explain.
I don’t think so no. I have to go on every night even if I have nothing to do on
it or anyone to talk to lol. I guess it’s a bad habit.
-Which place can be more productive in terms of education and social contact:
the message board or the chat?
I think they both can be as long as they aren’t abused. I guess the message
board has the edge because when someone posts an interesting article then it
stays there for a few days so there is always the chance that you can come
across it but in the chat, you may only have that chance once.
-Do you think the internet has been invested and used in a good way by the
Assyrians?
To a certain extent yes. It’s a great way to keep Assyrians all around the world
informed of the political status of Assyrians, any news on Assyrians from back
home, teach the Assyrian language so yea I think its great if used to its
potential.
-What do you attribute the decline in bad behaviour and the increase in good
chatting habits lately on our website? That is we have less problems on our
community than ever before.
I think that people have come to appreciate the website and have learned what an
advantage it can be if used properly. It is also down to the webmaster though,
it’s good that people can be banned from things like text chat if they are out
of order and I guess this teaches them a lesson in a way
-Long-distance love: What do you think of it?
Well, I guess it depends on the individual. I myself don’t think I would be able
to have a long distance relationship with someone because you cant see them
everyday, buy them things etc. But some people can handle that and love can get
them through it…all respect to them!
-What comes to your mind when you first hear these three nicknames:
Akeeto, Tyareta, Princess Subby
Akeeto-Sounds like a wrestler lol
Tyareta- She’s from Tyareh
Princess Subby- Sounds like a princess from a submarine lol
-Is there certain people on the message board that you think have changed the
way we think to the better and made us more aware of who we are, and our purpose
in life? People that have had a profound impact on our Assyrianism and society?
Yes there are many, and the great thing is that they all affect our mentality in
different ways. For example I think Western Assyrian has taught many people with
his great posts why we should be proud to be Assyrian but at the same time proud
and good Christians. There are many more people for example Siko, yourself
Ashoor, Alvena Maryam and many others especially those people who went to the
World Youth Day celebrations.
-Assyrian Photo Albums: Do they help us in any way? i.e.: getting closer to each
other!
I guess it’s always easier to put a face on someone’s name.
-First Assyrian you met on our website, and the internet?
Wow, uhmmm, I think it was SexyGirl lol.
-What do you think is the main difference between Assyrian chatters from your
city or country and those in the rest of the world?
I don’t think there are many differences, especially with people around our age.

ASSYRIANS RELATED QUESTIONS
-Where do you see the Assyrians in the future?
Back in their ancestral homeland.
-How important is education to Assyrians?
Extremely important. This is our key to getting our country back.
-If we have our own country or at least our rights recognized in BetNahrain,
would you go back? Or at least pay an annual visit?
I would definitely go live there, but it’s just a matter of timing, for example
what if I was still half-way through my education. Might as well wait till I
finish it, and then move to my own country and help it grow.
-Do you think the name "Assyrian" should never change and remain to be the main
title for us?
Yes definitely. History shows that we are all Assyrians. A lot of other names
have been brought up to try and re-unite our people and unification is great.
However, once we lose the name Assyrian, with it we lose around 6000 years of
history, and that really would be a great shame.
-Do you think the Assyrian language will ever die?
The Assyrian language will never die.
-How to make the younger generation speak Assyrian more often?
This all depends on the household. Language does not skip a generation. If it is
not passed down, then it won’t survive. We see many parents talking to their
kids in English, but when they come to Churches and Assyrian parties and other
functions, they act like Omtanayeh. Sorry, but Omtanayoota starts from the home.
-Last word to all people out there and how they can serve our nation even
better?
As long as someone is proud to be Assyrian, and he carries this pride
everywhere, then Assyrianism will never die. If a person works sincerely for his
nation, then I think this will inspire others to do the same, and from this our
nation will be much better off.
General and Miscellaneous Questions
-What do you prefer more: the World Cup or the Olympics?
Definitely the World Cup. I hardly ever watch the Olympics.
-What is the greatest invention we have seen in the last 100 years or so?
Probably the use of airplanes.
-How much time do you give to each of these things in a
day: studying, working, exercise, praying, socializing, and sleeping?
Studying- Depends what time of year, near the summer probably around 2-3 hours a
day (excluding time spent in school)
Working- Eight hours a week
Praying- Not enough time
Socializing- Probably whenever I’m not sleeping or studying
Sleeping- Around 8 hours
-If you win the lottery? How would you spend the money?
Buy a massive plot of land in London so that a new and bigger Church for our
community here can be built, together with an Assyrian club next to it.
-Have you heard about the West Nile Virus?
Yea it was all over the news, but I don’t really know anything about it.
-Some futuristics have predicted the disappearance of the computer in the
future: What do you think of that statement?
I think it’s exaggerated.
-How would you describe what dreams mean?
I really have no idea to tell you the truth.
-The best and worst ruler or leader in history:
Best Leader- Tiglath Pileser III
Worst Leader- I’m not sure about this one
-Do you support abortion?
It wouldn’t be fair for me to say because I have never been in a position to
think about it.
-What do you think of the following figures?
Winston Churchill, Ashur Panipal, Bill Gates
Winston Churchill- Had a lot of heart and helped his nation win the war
Ashur Panipal- Was extremely intelligent and made the first library on earth to
help the sons of Assyria become the smartest in the world
Bill Gates- Quite a rich guy
FINAL THOUGHTS
-If someone wants to get in touch with you, where would they reach you?
Probably on the net.
-What was the hardest question we asked you? Or didn't like?
The one where you asked if I was an intrinsic or extrinsic person. I wasn’t sure
about the meanings so I had to get a dictionary lol. Akh minookh.
-One question you were glad we didn't ask you?
I’m not sure.
-Your best quote in life:
I don’t really have one. Sorry.
-Give us a question that we should ask in our next interviews:
How can you say that we are not the ancient Assyrians?
-What do you think of this interview and what can it help us with?
I think it’s great. It’s fun to do but also helps people know what kind of
person you are.
-We have reached our third year of conducting interviews: which interview did
you like best so far?
Well I never used to read the interviews until I read Siko’s one. I like reading
them all.
-If you were to choose the next person to be interviewed who would it be from
the chat and why?
J-ROK because he cracks me up HeHe. Sorry khoree =p
-Any final comments or thoughts?
I loved this interview. Well done on everything you have done on this website.
Hope it grows even more and helps us get closer together so we can show the
world what Assyrians are all about.
At the end of this interview we would like to thank you and wish you a good luck
in your life.
