Assyrian Chatters
Interviews |
Name: Åñgëlïcïöü§
Date: Jan 25th, 2003
Hello and
welcome to our website:
first of all we would like you to introduce yourself
-Name:
Julie
-Nickname:
Åñgëlïcïöü§
-Sex/age/location:
15 (almost 16)-F-Chicago
-Tell us about your life, what do you do in general?
My life right now has its bad times and good times. But I’m sure there are
thousands of others in my position. Right now I’m a student, trying my best to
“impress” my ever so loving mentors. On the weekends I sometimes go to my uncles
house to practice boxing and I’m signing up for a kick boxing class (how
exciting). It’s real fun. I also spend time with my close friends as much as
possible. If it weren’t for them I’d probably would’ve just stayed home for the
rest of my life. I also like to read and learn about Greek mythology. I was
Aphrodite in a play once J. Egyptian things catch my attention too.
-What about your education or career goals?
In education wise. I’m definitely not a genius. But I think using my common
sense got me through most things. In the past I’ve chosen thousands of careers
that I want to do. Right now. I’m trying to get involved in anything that has to
do with acting. Mainly that is my dream career. I’ve been dreaming since I was a
kid. If I don’t make it in that career, then I will study to be a Psychologist
or Veterinarian since I love animals so much.
-Tell us about life in Chicago? What makes this city different from other
cities?
Chicago!! I love this city. I wouldn’t think of going anywhere else. What makes
it different to me is the majority of ethnic groups who live here. I have a lot
of friends who are from different backgrounds and religion. Usually I hear
people telling me, “Isn’t that like Gangsta Paradise”. Yeah we have our bad
road. But you’ll only end up in that road if you choose the wrong path. Other
then that Chicago is like any other city (but better in my opinion) ;)
"But most North American Chatters seem more modern then the ones in Europe and most of the Europe chatters seem more mature."
-You were born in the U.S. Did that ever affect your ability to speak Assyrian?
No, I speak the Assyrian language pretty good. Especially when I’m visiting my
grandmother’s house. That woman will shred my head if she hears one word of
English coming out of my mouth. My mom also made me speak Assyrian a lot. My
first word was “BABA” (audience awws). :)
-Your personality in few words?
In people’s point of view. They say I’m active, aggressive, brave, affectionate
and funny. Those are the 5 main things I hear from people. But to me, I think of
myself as a truths worthy person. If people tell me not to tell anybody about
there secrets. I Don’t. People’s secrets and thoughts, I keep to myself. Just
think of me as a vault. Whatever comes in won’t come out. Unless you know the
combination “which you don’t” :)
-What do you like about Assyrian guys?
What I like about “most” Assyrian guys is their respect and understanding that
most of them have. The Assyrian men I’ve met are the most respected ones, funny
and mature (not to mention good looking). Overall. Assyrian Men are “GREAT”.
(Some of them at least)
-Three things you can't live without?
*Christ*, money and taking a shower :)
-What is the ultimate good and happiness according to you?
Having the people respecting, admiring and looking up to you as a role model. It
shows that you’ve done something good in your life.
-How important is praying and devotion in your life? Do they ever help you?
Praying is extremely important to me. Praying helped me solve my problems and
when no one was there for me I always prayed to God and had a one on one chat
with him. Although you spill out all your problems out and not getting a reply
back, it still feels like there are signs everywhere, Telling you God is
listening and he is doing all he can to make you happy. I devote myself entirely
to Christ. No one in this world can ever stop me from believing in him. No one.
CHAT QUESTIONS
-Do you remember the first day for you on the chat, and who told you about it?
Yes, I remember coming in here for the first time. My cousin Ninos was always on
voice chat. So my dad wanted to go in to talk to him. My dad went under as
“BABA”. It was funny. He kept screaming on the mic. Then after that. I just
began going on and enjoyed it a lot. Especially Visual Chat. Which I spent my
whole day on. J I was on for about 3 years but no one ever knew me. I was the
“Quiet One” :)
-You have changed nicknames several times thus made it hard for people to know
you at times. Have you finally decided on one yet?
LOL I’m mysterious that way ;). Yeah I had my majority of names. I couldn’t
choose one. The first time on the message board I came in as JUJU and the real
JUJU got priiiiiiiiiityyyyyyy mad L I’m sorry. But yes I have finally come to a
decision. : Envelope please: {{DRUMS ROLLING}} and the official nickname is and
forever will be… * Åñgëlïcïöü§ *
-Which one is more useful for Assyrians? The text chat or message board?
I think the message board is the most useful for the Assyrian chatters. You can
post topics and have people answer them. Just let them sit there and think about
what to post or help you out if you have any homework or daily life questions.
In text chat I met a lot of online friends but text chat to me seems more like a
dating line :)
-What do you think is different between chatters from North America and Europe?
Actually, I don’t see anything different with them. But most North American
Chatters seem more modern then the ones in Europe and most of the Europe
chatters seem more mature. I guess it just depends on how you look at it and who
the chatters are.
-What do you think of Michi's "Attack the argument and not the person..."
I couldn’t have said it better myself. Michi is a very mature person in the
message board and his “Attack the argument and not the person” probably made A
LOT of people to think before they post or say anything. GOOD JOB BUDDY :)
-How effective have Assyrians used the internet for their own interest and to
let the world know about them and their issue?
THANK GOD FOR TECHNOLOGY! I’ve been to so many chat rooms talking about the
“Assyrian Culture”. You’d be surprise to know the majority of people who didn’t
even know we existed. I got one white guy telling me “Aren’t Assyrians those
people who kill other people “NO Dummy Those Are Assassins”. I think the
internet has been a HUGE impact on us. Posting pictures and sites about
Assyrians can really help people understand us and know we still exist.
-What comes to your mind when you first hear these three nicknames:
ILL WILL UK,Liz, Zuggy,
ILL WILL UK- I have no idea who you are :)
Liz- Real name Elizabeth
Zuggy- my friends lover. “Anita is watching you” :)
-Do you think there is any certain individuals on the internet that make a
positive impact?
Yeah. There are a lot of them that make positive impacts on the internet. I can
make a whole list but that will take forever. But those people know who they
are.
-What do you see different in the website in 2003 from 2002 or previous years?
Hmm. So far everything seems the same. Different people come in here everyday
and the old ones we never hear from anymore. Lets just hope the website will
last a very long time.
-Do you agree that the website has less problems now and fewer hassles than ever
before?
Actually. It’s kind of an off and on situation. You got the people who are
jealous of another person, So they go and post ridiculous messages about them,
and those people who go in text chat trying to be someone there not. But at
times. People have learned a lot from this website and they have learned how to
be mature as into talking to people and not just act like immature mules.
-What topics should we see more of or others that we should see less of?
Some topics we need to see more of are actual topics that can have some meaning
to our lives. Not just those topics that go a little something like “OMG! I went
to the mall and there was this guy who was staring at me and yeah I chase my
grandma and I see YOU!!!! C’mon now!
-The Assyrian Voice Network has finally reached its one millionth visitor. What
do you think about it?
OoOoo! Were popular!!J I say we all get together, paint ourselves in tiger
stripes and Attack SADAM!! : Ahem: sorry L I’m really glad that we have many
Assyrians finally getting together as one. That can be one step ahead of
actually getting our voices heard worldwide to everyone :)

ASSYRIANS RELATED QUESTIONS
-Tell us about the Assyrian side in you? And how proud are you?
Assyrians, Assyrians, Assyrians. I got nikhrayehs in my school speaking the
language. I don’t usually get myself into Assyrian activities like parties and
so on. Whenever I do, problems start to happen to me. So I’m trying to step away
for a while. Only on some occasions I go to parties. I’m really proud to be
Assyrian. At times I feel others bring the nationality a level down. With all
those “Problem starters” and people getting involved into everyone else’s life.
I HATE THAT!
-How can Assyrians in the west make a positive contribution in helping the
Assyrian nation?
Get involve in Assyrian activities. Like in Chicago and I’m sure most parts of
the world. We have Assyrian Parades to show everyone who we are. (Well at least
the Hindus that live right along the street where we march at know who we are) J
It’s a great way to represent who we are.
-Do you think the Assyrian language can survive another 100 years? If yes, then
how?
Yes, It’s possible. Anything is possible. How can we make this happen? 5 words.
STAY WITH YOUR OWN RACE. That’s probably the best way for all of us not to get
extinct.
-Do you think we should put our trust into the church's hand to lead us at these
rough times?
OF COURSE! The church is the house of God, if you respect God and believe in him
then no harm will ever come to you at his home. Church to me is the only place
that I can feel absolutely safe from any danger at all.
-What do you say to Assyrians who know the Assyrian language yet choose not to
speak it even with their fellow Assyrians?
If you have the Assyrian blood flowing in you, then you better at least know the
language. At times I know it’s hard for some people to speak Assyrian to there
friends because they want to feel more modern and sometimes people don’t know
every single word of Assyrian and feel embarrass. Well, lets just say if you
practice and keep trying to speak it every chance you get. You will have no need
to be ashamed of that. Come on. We lost a country. Lets not lose the language
because next we’ll lose ourselves.
-What is the biggest threat that Assyrians face at this time?
Honestly. I think the biggest threat that Assyrians face at this time is each
other. It seems to me that some Assyrians try to bring down others, just to make
themselves look good. They backstab, lie, and start rumors. I personally think
if we all have the evil eye on each other and were all scattered around the
world. Then just imagine us with a country. We won’t last one week without
someone making plans to ruin the others reputation. It’s nonsense really.
-What do you say to people who refuse to accept the name "Assyrian" as the
standard name for our nation and people?
I :sigh: and give them a lecture about Assyrians and make sure they fit
everything I say into what’s left of their brain.
-Last word to all people out there and how they can serve our nation even
better?
Help everyone whose anyone and you’re only a failure if you give up.
General and Miscellaneous Questions
-What do Americans think of Canadians?
Lol. Do I really have to say it? *Kidding* Canadians think there better then
Americans. Americans think there much better then Canadians. Honestly, I don’t
know why they fight over whose better or not. I don’t see any symbol in any of
the words “America And Canada” that represents “ASSYRIA”. So I personally think
both need to shut up and realize they’re debating with there own Assyrians over
countries that don’t belong to them anyways.
-What three websites do you visit on a daily basis?
AssyrianVoice, Google (I got to look everything up :cough:Vin Diesel :Cough) and
my website :)
-Some people go on MSN to study? and that is almost done on a daily basis: what
do you think of that? are they really studying or just chatting?
If you really wanted to study. You wouldn’t sign on to the msn messenger now
would you ;) You people can’t fool me I know what your doing ;)
-What language do you wish to learn?
(European languages) Italian, Greek and French (I’m learning right now)
-Some people have started to give up their cars for the sake of having a better
environment and less pollution? do you think what they are doing is the right
thing or is just too much?
It’s too much. It’s like your saying VINDIGO giving up his beloved car just to
save a tulip. C’mon now. You’re not going to see many people repeating history
and ride on donkeys. Although it’s great to see people taking an interest in
saving the environment. Lets face it. It will be rare for it to happen.
-Star Wars, Lord of The Rings, Spider Man: which one do you think was the best
of 2002?
SPIDERMAN!!! I really enjoyed watching that movie. Mostly because it reminded me
of my little brother. Who loves Spiderman with passion.
-What was the major highlight(s) of 2002?
2002. hmm. Nothing really seems to happen. Just the same old crimes we face and
threat with the whole September 11. Lets just hope they’ll be exciting things
heading our way for 2003 (nothing bad)
-What will be the major highlight(s) of this year?
I Guess we have to wait and see
-As a teenager, what do you think Assyrian singers should do to appeal more to
teenagers like you?
I think they should make more songs that have to do with a teenager’s life.
Enough with these heart breaking songs. Also add a little techno and euro into
their songs. Many of my Assyrian friends love it when Assyrian singers add a
little bit of English in their music. I also think we should get Assyrian
teenagers to start singing. I know many with beautiful voices.
-What do you think of the following figures? Buddha, Ninos Nirary, Ted Turner
Buddha- A Fat man on a lily pad.
Ninos Nirary- An intelligent Assyrian.
Ted Turner- rich guy
