These translations give me a headache.  Nevertheless, that's two good things in the past day:  the statement from Secretary Clinton, http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-11-17/clinton-issues-report-condemning-christian-persecution-in-iraq.html, and now the push to implement the self-administrative region.

Nations have taken advantage of their own tragedies to push forth their self-interests; be it the holocaust, anfal, 9/11, etc.  We keep burying and crying over our dead.  We were weakened internally after Seyfo (and betrayed by the Brits); let's not wait for yet another calamity to get what is rightfully ours.

We often fault them for not doing enough or not knowing otheir policies etc. but to be fair, they say it a lot - in Iraq, in Arabic, on their television, etc. We just don't know where to get the info.

The ADM cannot clean Iraq of terrorists. And they'll never satisfy the diaspora Assyrians with their rhetoric. We always want to hear or know more from them. But they're still Iraqi politicians who have to speak like Iraqis. This disconnect in our understanding of context is really our own problem.

Nevertheless, this is a good declaration once again proclaiming their insistence on the Constitutionally afforded administrative rights in the NP along with increases security, more economic opportunity, schools, hospitals, etc.

Why do you think they owe you a comm? Who operates like that? What other political party in Iraq do you know that sends out mass emails to get their message across? It's on their websites.  You can fault them for not having enough communication perhaps in English (http://www.admzowaa.com/) perhaps, but if you want information, go to their information sources. That's how it works.

Besides, you're not really their audience. Iraqis are. As it really should be. That's kind of the point of being diaspora activists for the homeland, right?

Don't even get me started.  I've complained about this for years.  You know how long I b!tched and moaned that their website wasn't even in English, and we finally got that....what, not even a year?  Ashur tv was little help (when it's not down.)  Seriously, I don't need a personalized, hand-delivered report detailing their every action, but a reliable source of communication in this day and age is really not asking much.

Leet, I think we've proved over and over again how helpful diaspora Assyrians can be.  I think it's universally understood that we can't demand anything of those that remain in atra, but consisten forms of communication would at least help us deliver their message.  Their message is what gets lost sometimes, and we can't keep downplaying how important the message is.

Um....we've also demonstrated even better how harmful the diaspora can be. So how about remembering what their priorities really are and cutting them some slack.

They have 2 websites (English and Arabic), a television station, and are published on sites like ankawa.com. There are also constantly ADM events around the cities where they have branches where you can walk right up to an ADM rep and ask what's going on. So...um...get over yourselves?  :)

Yeah, no argument there dude.

Your average person probably knows the kurdistani message better than our message.  It's less nuanced, much more clearer (because it lacks details), and it's bombarded on more media outlets than ours.  They are "on message" more and repeat it more.  I appreciate that ADM is more active in doing rather than promoting, but we can't just keep taking comfort in the fact that we are right.  Articulating and spreading our positions is just as vital.

PS - Baklawa wanted to start an AVN fight with me so I'm just obliging. We're both bored at work.

I didn't say to start it, I just said you were going down!

Don’t they depend on the Assyrians in Diaspora?  I don’t know why you are being so defensive this is a known issue with Zowaa that even Zowaa members here admit.

It’s just PR stuff they can do a lot better, look at KRG and how they do their PR every tom d!ck and harry thinks the Kurdish North is a safe haven, the pro Kurdish-Assyrians you argue with here everyday are a result of Zowaa’s lack of comms.

Btw, I’m not talking about Zowaa comms within Iraq that go to Iraiq’s I’m talking about the west.

You should not bash on diaspora Assyrians when you apparently do not comprehend how much money and effort diaspora Assyrians have put into helping our nation in the homeland regardless of country.

In our case, diaspora Assyrians along with enlightened Assyrians in the homeland will lead the path for unity and freedom. But hey, if you're putting your faith into arabised Baghdad Assyrians/Chaldeans/Syriacs that's up to you.

So does this mean that they make pressure on Iraqi politicians to make Article 125 officially acknowledged by the government to claim administrative rights according with this Article 125 ?

Wow. In one thread you've managed to compare the KRG's multi-million dollar (tens of millions actually) PR campaigns worldwide with the ADM, come close to calling Assyrians in Iraq "peasants" who "depend on us" (and therefore "owe us"...?), and threatened to drop Assyrians in Iraq unless you're given the attention/information you're after?

Public relations from Zowaa can always be better (specifically in the West), but there is a lot of information out there.  A press release from the ADM is at the top of this thread confirming their commitment to Article 125 and the Nineveh Plains, and it's from their website, published today (which you can visit for free daily). Also www.admzowaa.com. Also their satellite television. Also ankawa.com. Also Zahrira.net. Also you can take time to go to Zowaa events (political ones). If you want to know intimate details of legislative plans that only internal party members know, then I strongly urge you to join Zowaa and become a member. You will be privy to a lot more information than is made public.

Thanks to admzowaa.com, there is an accurate English translation:

The aftermath of the cowardly terrorist crime which targeted the Church of Our Lady of Deliverance in Baghdad on October 31, 2010 and the subsequent terrorist operations against our people targeting their existence in addition to the the political process towards forming the government; the Central Committee of the Assyrian Democratic Movement held an urgent meeting in Baghdad on November 17 – 18 to discuss the Nationalistic situation of our nation and ways of dealing with the repercussions of the terrorist crimes on one hand and the welcoming invitations by foreign countries and internal politics, on the other hand, that are aimed to displace our nation by not taking aggressive measures and developing comprehensive approaches to face these cowardly crimes and protecting the citizens.

The attendees criticized the poor performance of the intelligence personnel and the weakness in preventing crimes as a result of the past political conflicts aimed to achieve gains in the government to be formed, which impacted the overall situation in the country in addition to the mixed signals that might have been unintentional, but had created a state of chaos and left a negative impact and frustration among citizens and served against the unity of the society. The attendees praised the patriotic consensus of the political, religious and civil organizations by supporting our people in condemning the terrorist operations that targeted our nation. The meeting also praised the nationalistic consensus in dealing with the repercussions of terrorist attacks and taking action in organizing protests and marches of condemnation across the country and the world, calling for perseverance, resolve and determination of our people to stay in the homeland. Also the attendees valued the role of our religious organizations and churches that urged our people to stay firmly in homeland and never give up to the agendas that are aimed to displace them.

The attendees of the meeting also demanded the federal government and the rest of the authorities in all provinces to assume their responsibilities in confronting and tracking the sources of such attacks and taking proper actions to alleviate the fears of citizens, and provide them with stable life and opportunities that would encourage them to stay in the country by activating our constitutional demands and guaranteeing our administrative, political and cultural rights in our ancestral land and abolish all arbitrary decisions that led to the demographic change. In addition to returning the ownership of land to its rightful owners and provide employment opportunities in the public sector which our people were eliminated from. Also forming local forces, police and security, from our people in the Nineveh Plain and give them proper training and gear to serve within the national security forces. Also respect religious rituals to worship freely, and expedite the establishment of colleges in the Nineveh Plain as a step towards developing a university in the region, and support education in Syriac language.

The meeting called for the leaders of political parties of our people to hold an urgent meeting to discuss the Nationalistic situation of our nation and expedite the demand of our nationalistic rights and reach an agreement for further steps towards unifying the discourse and the political vision to form mechanisms of joint action. The attendees also advised for the Iraqi political parties and institutions to support the legitimate rights of our people to achieve justice and patriotic partnership in all state institutions as the rest of the Iraqi components.

The meeting concluded with decisions regarding the formation of the government and our participation in it to achieve a government of national partnership.

Assyrian Democratic Movement

Baghdad, November 18, 2010

There is a reason that no group outside of the ADM discusses the already legal, already constitutional, solution of Article 125 as an administrative unit in the Nineveh Plains (which, depending on how the law is written, can have varying levels of autonomy, as autonomy is an adjective, not a noun). There is a reason all the other Kurdistani-loyalists will say anything - anything - from "autonomy" (which is an empty adjectival) to "province" to "region", and so on instead of what already exists in law. It is because only Article 125 has a basis in law and is feasible, and only Article 125 has the power to stop KRG expansion - indeed, the NPAU plan eventually moves up through Dohuk to the Turkish border. All other options touted by the Kurdistani Christians in Parliament and the Kurdistani Assyrian parties (such as BNDP and APP and so on) expand KRG territory.  That is the first reason.

The other reasons are already laid out here: http://www.assyrianvoice.net/forum/index.php?topic=39937.0

....including but not limited to: it is meant to make us quarrel with each other about what is "more": Article 125 or "autonomy". And since that is a false choice, we are arguing about nothing. It is the same thing the Baathists did to the Kurds in the 70s when they offered "autonomy" - despite the fact that the Ba'ath controled everything in the "autonomy" from political leaders to budget ro security. But hey...at least they were safe. Like the Christians have always been under Ba'athist rule.

So next time a Kurdistani opens their ridiculous mouth to speak the KDPs words of "autonomy" or "province" or whatever, ask why they are not implementing or supporting this "autonomy" through the already existing legal channels of Article 125 and  instead trying to go a route where the entire constitution needs to be amended with buy-in of "autonomy" from the rest of Iraqis (something the Kurds tried in 2004 and failed to get into the Constitution. As well as the ADM. Hence Article 125, the compromise). Ask why they are avoiding the legally feasible and instead asking us to pursue something unconstitutional which has failed already in the past.
