List of active Assyrians
« on: October 31, 2006, 11:36:28 AM »
Could you guys name devoted Assyrians who work on the Assyrian cause

Let me start:

Professor Joseph Jacoub: Assyrian author and political scientist, (awarded with the Sélyre Prize for his  literary work in France).

Michael Youash, Director of the Iraq Sustainable Democracy Project.  Few people realize this is his full time job, he lives in DC, and lobbies the US government for the Nineveh Plains, travelling to Iraq when necessary.
"Why am I an Assyrian?  Because my parents were.  Additionally, I am an Assyrian because I feel it a sacred destiny to be one.  One is an Assyrian not only because of the accident of birth.  The will to be an Assyrian involves more than being the child of Assyrian parents."

Ashur Giwargis - Political Analyst/Writer - Lebanon

ThoughI don't know him, but he writes very well and his nationalism is not questionable.

I'll write more as I can think of them....Oh Wait

most of Ashur Gewargis' articles are purely attacking Zowaa. that to me does not constitute a nationalist.

I know he doesn't agree with Zowaa (mainly Younadam Kanna), however, that does not mean he is not a nationalist and someone who loves and works for his people.

Anyway, for those that want to read some of what he has written, none of which ATTACKS Zowaa, you can read for yourself http://ana-ashur.com/articles/Ashur_Giwargis_mainpage.htm

Dear eanna,

Choosing active Assyrians have to do with what you believe in and if they are active Assyrians but on different principles than those you believe in how will they serve the purpose of your project???

Being active doesn't necessarily mean that it's along the same lines which can serve Assyria.

I had a feeling someone was going to come back with something like that :bangin:

I believe as a true nationalist you have 3 options when its comes to Zowaa:

1, You support them as the ONLY Assyrian party working for Assyrians in Iraq.
2, You don't support them and you live in your respective countries carrying on with your day to day life.
3, You go to Iraq yourself and see if you can make a difference. I was taught in school that you criticise someones work best by doing yours better.

Sitting in your office in Lebanon or in your TV station in California ranting and raving about what Zowaa should be doing while they are on the ground and criticising everything they do is unacceptable.

Ashur Giwargis indirectly works with the Kurds by undermining the ONLY ASSYRIAN representation against the kurdification of our lands.

...and he is fully aware of that.

So he can yell Assyria and Assyrian all he wants, it means nothing.

Actions speak much louder then words.

Since I just met her and think she's fabulous......

Pascale Isho Warda

Ms. Warda served as Minister of Displacement and Migration during the Allawi government.  A senior politician from the Assyrian Democratic Movement, she is active in political developments in Iraq.  She was most recently serving as human rights advisor to the Speaker of the National Parliament, she is a member of the committee forming the Iraqi Human Rights Commission, and is the President of the Iraqi Women’s Center for Development.

Ms. Warda received her early education in her hometown of Dawidiya, Iraq before leaving for France to obtain her Masters Degree in Human Rights Studies at the Catholic University of Lyon. While in France, she taught Assyrian and cathecism, worked to settle refugees, and worked as an interpreter for those seeking asylum in France, while maintaining close ties with events in Northern Iraq. She served as the representative of the Assyrian Democratic Movement (ADM) in France, and later the director of the ADM Diplomatic Relations Office in Damascus, Syria. She is currently a tireless advocate for the Assyrian people INSIDE Iraq, working towards obtaining our nation an INDEPENDENT region.
