EVERYONE copies music, or samples.  The international laws on copy-right infringement are almost non-existent.  Otherwise, all these artists would actually have to give credit to the original composer, and possibly pay royalties.  But that doesn't happen right now.  Those rules only apply to the rich and famous, which kind of makes sense.  If a small-time singer copies a song from another small-timer, then what's the harm?  Neither one is obviously popular enough to have an impact on the song (this might become a problem if Assyrian music was as popular as Arabic music).

But if Jay-Z samples a song, then he better be ready to go to court for that (if he doesn't get permission to use it from the original singer).

you have to be kidding to say that he copies songs

sure he copies some but the man is 70 and has his voice and still can sing, unlike sargon who is washed up and has nothing left but yet still tries to sing, and oh atourina i think you should re check sargon songs cause he has copied music and yes only Ashour is the only one that never copied anything.

was that meant to say my name??  cuz my comment was:

oh.. because about 80% of todays artists havent ripped off other songs right???

meaning.. its not just Evan who does it... this thread is ridiculous anyways  :bangin:

Agreed. Evin is one of the legends in Assyrian music. So what if he bites music? does anyone really write their own songs anymore.. all these big shot stars have lyricists writing everything for them...You think our small-time singers won't do it? Some people just love to bring others down.

Also, it's not likely that he would make a rude remark like the one that was mentioned, out of nowhere knowing full well that it would be all over CNN.. unless there was a dispute of some sort.

Janan Sawa does not only copies Ibrahim Tatlises, Alisan but also a lot of Kurdish songs. I see that the Eastern Assyrian singers copy less than the Western Assyrian singers. My Uncle used the music of Ayne Komeh by Sargon and my mothers cousin wrote another lyric to the song :D. And youd be surprised how many of the West-Assyrian singers copy from Turkish, Arabic and Kurdish music. But I also heard that the Kurdish singers tole it from us :D.

I really don't care if an artist copies but if you copy it then do it good and not making it sound like a karaoke song.
I am an Assyrian today, tomorrow, forever, and I am proud of it.

Yes, absolutely!  I don't mind the excessive borrowing, but I wish our artists would really focus on traditional Assyrian music.  Sometimes I'm in the mood to hear just that.  If I want to hear Arabic, western, Chinese, etc., I know where to find that.  And when asked by a non-Assyrian to hear our music, I'd like to play something without them saying, "Oh yeah, that's Abdel Halim's song!"  :ban:

aww I love ewan!

Brown eyes I’m in disbelief that he'd say something like that, judging by his songs anyway he seems like such a good example of what other should look up to…obviously anyone in your husbands shoes would be offended too.

Sogolti Yimmi / malik mirza
Leh maseh ateh youma / Pesian song by Viguen
Hala leet /Italian song
tanili layly..From old Assyrian singer forgot his name
Rosh jwanqa...Same old rabi Jibrael babylla

Influenced? yes. When I play the guitar and write music, you can hear my influences... But I am a big fan of neopolitan music, and I have Viguen's music from early in his career, and I have not recognized an Ashur song from it. If you hear Viguen, it's most likely Suren. Qma Quyra Pokha, sounds an awful lot like Faramarz Aslani's Age Ye Rooz... but they're still not the same either.

The truth is that Ashur is original. And he is not a saint, by any means... but he writes his own music and arranges the instruments himself. He is the closest we have to having a musical artist.

funny you should say that cause the info on that song says that Ashur wrote the lyrics and Faramarz Aslani did the music lol so at least he gives credit to where he got it not like other biters. music is always oing to be passed around and changed but the biggest biter of all time is Walter Aziz...that guy rips off songs from other assyrians then promotes them as his own without any permission.

i just can't believe any of you attacking a singer that has made such great music. I remember growing up in iraq if we got caught listining to his music we got in trouble. he has sung some of the most beautiful patriotic music ever, you may not like his music but for you to bash him on re-singing someone else's song is pretty bad.
I'm not sure what he said to your husband browneyes but if thats something that really offended him that much he would have said something no i man i know would allot that if he felt offended.

Okk sorry for those people who "Love" Evin Agassi but he is such loser and copy cat he always copy Greek and turkish songs.... :ranting: why cant our singer have thier own music and songs :bangin:

Here is a song that Evin stole from greek songs or music :loool:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=r2pkvTdmXOY

hi Anita,

Ok, this greek song, didn't ring a bell at all. Can you tell me which song you're refering to, so i can find it and hear the similarities for myself, please? Also, you seem to be totally convinced that Evin "Alwayscopycats Greek and Turkish music. Do you have some hard evidence for that, or it was just something that you decided to throw out here...I would like to learn more about your experience in this regard, if you dont' mind?

OMG I KNOW!!!!!!!!!! Have u ever heard tani tani??? He COMPLETELY ripped that song off the turkish singer ibrahim tatlises. This guy needs to be slapped in the face.

Dude, that's not even Evin..lol...that's Yourik who lives in log angeles. He did that "tani tani" song. By the way, in case if you didn't know (which obviously you don't) taking melodies from someone else is not a new surprise. This is been going on for the past 1200 years, if not more. Have you heard "greensleeves"? then you must've heard "what child is this" which is the same melody, but it's a christmas carol. I could think of 1000 songs right now, that have been taken from other resources, there's nothing wrong with it. If you take someone else's melody, and call it your own original composition, that's a big "no no no"...Yourik never said that. He simply did that because it was a famous turkish song, and every body would recognize it.

ha ha ha...you said it all girl. This guy has over 400 songs. Of course, not all of them are great. But that's the case with any singer. Lots of people grew up listening to his songs. Even the least musicially talented people would probably recognize some of his hit songs in a heart beat. He's done a lot of work for assyrian music. Lots of great "original" melodies with meaningful lyrics for different occasions.

Idgaf how old this thread this, but the OP is a stupid fool beyond all measures and I'll do my best to correct her ignorance! And it's sad that there are people following her BS, being concordant to her putrid opinion. God, were Assyrians that stupid a decade ago? I hope our IQs have doubled since then, cos this thread makes me weep.  :bash:

First, have some respect. He's an old man and he has stood up for our nation. He's not someone your age where you would write such ridiculous and frivolous crap about him. Get a grip and to all the actual losers who agreed with you in here.  Second, and most importantly, Evin doesn't create the melodies nor even write the songs you dumb idiot. Have you heard of composers and lyricists? Yep, they're the ones who create the melodies. So, if anything, blame them. You're such a za'toota. Hopefully you've grown up since then and laugh at this embarrassing thread you made, and also realize how asinine this thread is. :ranting:

Lastly, since you're so naïve (at that time I hope), you would not be aware that even Ashur Bet Sargis (also a good singer btw) has melodies based on European songs. Yep, some of his melodies are akin to French, Eastern European and American pop music from the 70s. But of course, since you're Assyrian, you don't listen to Slavic or French music as much as you do with Turkish or Greek music. Either way, I'm not a fool like you to hold it against the singer, when there are lyricists and arrangers (in which you ignorantly disregard).

He puts me to sleep thats how bad his songs are. :french: i can just  :gunbandana:
Go listen to electro "zurna and dawola" synthesized music that are about mathwatheh and jwanqeh shetraneh. Guessing you like Munadhel Tomika? He does that crap. Yeah, stick to that please and leave Evin alone. Amazing how people can have such horrid taste in music. You are the worst (or best?) example. Lmao.  :eekout:

And is that a death threat? You mean "I can just shoot him"? Khmarta. :bangin:

Do it  :bigarmhug:
And you're encouraging her to kill him?

What the f*ck was up with this forum 10 years ago? You girls are probably in jail right now. Who knows what you've done in that time. Creeps.

Amazed at how a person can be hated so intensely for doing nothing, and where they warrant a death threat for it!? Utterly disgusting. :bann:

if i was in ur husbands shoses i would have kicked the **** out of him akhhhh that really gets me mad because of ppl like him will never have a land to call are own. He's lame anyways :beee:
It's because of naïve fools like you (who believe in all gossip and lies) we Assyrians are so backwards. I really hope that you regret saying this after a decade.

i know a lot of assyrians love him, but my husband hates him....to be honest with u, he was rude to my husband, my husband was talking and he spoke like zakho way thats how we speak it u know then Ewan goes to him, ate lawit atoraya, ate chaldanie, so leave the party, my husband goes i thought there is no diffrence between chaldeans and assyrians, my husband got sooo pissed off so he left :(  since then he hates him...
You lying, disgraceful snake. How much did they pay to make up this falsity?
Yeah I know I told him u should have spit in his face, he goes I didn’t bother I just left… but yeah that was rude of him...
You had the audacity to invent a vile lie and now you say this? Shame on you.

God I hope you three little girls have grown up since 2007. If not, then god help us.

Speaking of "girls" (since you three were young) - Let me guess, he's an old man and is not really your type....So, hey, "let's defame him"? Was that your little arrangement? Hopefully now, as 30 year old women, you regret this frivolous crap you wrote about him, seriously.

Cant understand a word that comes outta Evin's mouth... he should retire already, let his son take over

With the alias of "Hilwa" you obviously wouldn't get what he's saying. I take it that you speak Arabic more than you speak Assyrian. So, please, just stick with Arabic or Chaldean music or something, and leave good Assyrian music to us.

What son? His son doesn't sing, you dingbat. And even if he did, he'll sing in an Urmian accent and it's not like you'll comprehend what he's saying either. God, the stupidity...:bangin:

I know this sh!t is from 2007, but god it's the most triggering thing I've ever found on this forum. The arrogance and imbecility of these people is beyond all measures! I quoted all this slander just so these buffoons can be exposed. I don't care how old it is. I want these people to be put in their spot regardless of when they wrote it. Whether it's 1 day old or 2000 years old, I will still have my say and defend the greatest Assyrian singer of all time, especially against the unwanted and unjust smear he's gotten here. Hopefully the mods will understand my action.

i just can't believe any of you attacking a singer that has made such great music. I remember growing up in iraq if we got caught listining to his music we got in trouble. he has sung some of the most beautiful patriotic music ever, you may not like his music but for you to bash him on re-singing someone else's song is pretty bad.
I'm not sure what he said to your husband browneyes but if thats something that really offended him that much he would have said something no i man i know would allot that if he felt offended.

and spitting in someones face..what nasty person could even think like that. what are we koumaya?
Just immature little girls who dig younger, more "attractive" men and are mad that an older average looking man is more famous. They were letting out their sexual frustration. It happens.

Glad that a young person like you has some sanity and coherence. At least at that time. Lol.

EDIT (something to clear out):

To defend Evin and his "rip off" songs (I instead focused on those ABOVE who were slandering him) I want to add more things - And I know this thread is pretty much obsolete, but people WOULD STILL SEE IT if they Google "Evin Agassi music rip offs" or something like that. So it is really reasonable and appropriate to add anything vital (such as the truth) no matter how old it is. Anyway...

The OP and the concordant posters only chose like what, 4-5 "copied" songs (and I'm aware of them). When the man has made, I don't know, over 400 original songs? Lol. Yep, clearly a plagiarist. Another great musician, Linda George (whom I love to death mind you), also has a few "copied" Kurdish, Persian and Turkish songs. It happens. Western musicians do it too. It's called a COVER.

And guess what, the original artists are CREDITED on the Assyrian albums btw - Something that the OP and her theorists FAILED to see.

Again, this thread is NOT fair and is completely biased.
