Want to create an Assyrian Language course on Memrise?
« on: November 16, 2015, 09:19:38 PM »
Hey Guys!

Among many of us, there is a wide number of people who *wish* there would be a Good and Free Assyrian language learning source out there besides the best one (which would be to be born into an Assyrian speaking family)

More recently, free online courses have been dominating the language learning field.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

More specifically, free providers such as
1) Duolingo.com
2) Memrise.com
(as well as limited vs Perimium sources)
3)Busuu.com
4)Babbel.com

I made a post a few months ago regarding the possiblity of an Assyrian language course on Duolingo, however I do not know how many Assyrian language speakers actually saw the post or even applied...
There is another source however that I would like to present, were I would like to team up with one or two Assyrian language speakers in creating a course (it's easy!)

Memrise.com gives us the possibility to create our own courses anytime, in any language. You learn languages in a "fun" way by using your memory to remember the words and sentences you've heard.
I've created a Memrise course for my natal language (Romanian) and there have been many people who have been practicing hundred of thousands of times.
I would like for us to start building a course right away if possible, and it doesn't take too much effort to make. Although I don't speak a word in Assyrian, I have taught myself over the last couple of months to read and write in Eastern Script (even with vowels) using a book source I've discovered on YouTube.
Using my experience of past courses I've created, I can help you create an Assyrian course on Memrise, and through it we can create a really Good, Free, Online course that teaches Assyrian to whoever is interested.

Would any of you want to participate in the creation of the Course?...

Not a "Classical Syriac" course,

Rather, a Modern Day Assyrian course (aka Assyrian Neo-Aramaic)...  :) :) :)

I'm pretty good at reading but I suck at writing, especially when it comes to grammar... I'm a native speaker, let me know if I still can help :-)

Between Suret and Syriac?

What's the difference?

Suret: Modern day, spoken "Assyrian Neo-Aramaic
Suret is broken down into many different dialects
Suret has a large number of Vocab coming from Akkadian, even though it's a "modern" version of Syriac.
Syriac: Northern dialect of Aramaic (spoken mostly in church liturgy and stuff of that sort, and rarely spoken in the homes of Assyrians).
