Lol How many Assyrians are there in QLD? And yeah you're right less drama, but it's pretty cool when you go anywhere and most of the people speak your language (speaking of the Fairfield suburb)  :)

Their is probably like 100 Assyrians in Queensland (I think that's a good estimate).

It is important if you put your nation as one of the first priorities. These people who organised it believe that Assyrians should have a right to preserve our language, which is why they're doing it for free. If everyone had the "the world is going to end" mentality it would be depressing, wouldn't it?  We all live for love, respecting heritage , family and friends. Life would be meaningless without these things

A really good way to preserve the language would be the website duolingo (idk if you read my last post http://www.assyrianvoice.net/forum/index.php?topic=45595.0  is would be really cool to get a Syriac speaking team in the duolingo incubator, especially since it's one of the most popular learning websites, and it's completely free!!

The reason why Assyrian is declining in Fairfield isn't because we are not speaking that language anymore. It's actually because the Assyrian people in Fairfield have been on a slow "exodus" ever since 2008 - They're dispersing to the far western, more richer Sydney suburbs (Bossley Park, Wetherill Park, Greenfield Park, Edensor Park, etc). We also moved out from Fairfield too...

Nowadays Fairfield is getting more Iraqi Arabs, Mandeans and Chaldeans (who are fresh immigrants). They mostly speak Arabic (notice how Arabic is on the rise?), even the Chaldeans are speaking Arabic unfortunately.

Back in the 90s and early 2000s Fairfield was blessed with true blue Assyrians left and right. Gone are those days...

I'm Chaldean, and most of my family can speak Arabic.

I'm not a Chaldean... It just means I follow the Chaldean Catholic Church AKA Assyrian Catholics.

If you want the Chaldean identity to be forgotten stop calling them Chaldeans.

Then call them Chaldean-Assyrians :)

You're still technically calling them Chaldean

That's the problem - They don't us calling them "Assyrian".

If they want Chaldean then so be it...
