Title: A Wikipedian is in love with the Assyrian language.
Post by: Cascade on October 23, 2016, 01:20:19 AM
This Wikipedian said that the Assyrian language sounds so beautiful to his ears and is among his top 5 best languages. Read through that attached image below and see what he said about the language. Btw, it was this speech sample that got his attention and made him intrigued by our language: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Assyriansample.ogg

I should respeech that into Classical Syriac phonology.
And then it will be in his top 5 worst languages.

Syriac phonology is horrible. Now I'm all for incorporating Syriac words into our vocabulary. But their phonological Ayn and Heth sounds should be dropped or simplified. And we have done that - Like the words, "tarrah" (door) and "arah" (ground) for instance. They're not "tar'ah" and "ar'ah" anymore. Why? Because it's f***n' easier, not because we are butchering the language. Butchering is when we borrow Iranian and Turkish words.

Btw, this sample was in the Afro-Asiatic page. It's funny how out of all the Afro-Asiatic audio examples there (Berber, Somali, Arabic, etc), he fancied Assyrian. Maybe because we don't use the dreaded guttural heth and ayn sound, as they do?
