isn't that the beginning of the Ashur Adam raweh song?

here's the translation
ܫܡܥܝܠܝܗ ܚܕ݇ܐ ܩܠܐ ܕܙܡܪܐ
ܘܡܬܚܐ ܒܪܩ ܠܐܥܘܡܪܐ
ܝ݇ܬܝܒ݂ܐ ܒܫܬܝܐ ܚܡܪܐ

He wanted an English translation. Lol.

I heard a singing sound
(matakhay?) near the church
I sat down and drank wine

Mrzurnaci, I assume you thought that the word "mtakha" = expand (which we actually pronounce "mthakha") is the meaning of the word "matakhey" in the song, but that doesn't make any sense, does it?

From what you are saying it would mean something like:
I heard a singing sound
and I stretched in front of the church (?????)

The word mthakha btw doesn't only mean stretch out/expand.. it also means "getting bigger/fatter/gaining more mass". Especially Ashetnaye use this word more than others. I know this, cause I am Ashetnetha myself.
For example, we use the phrase "har mthakhaleh mthakha" for "he is getting fatter and fatter" (this is how we gossip in my family haha)

And plus, I watched the youtube video and the singer is pronouncing this word WAY more different than the word "mthakha". So this cannot be its meaning.

And if we take a look at the text, this word must mean something similar to "singing sound", cause the singer uses the conjunction "and"---> He says "Shmeeli qalet zimra W matakheh". So I'm thinking it might mean something like melody, cheering, or humming. Sadly, I did a little research of my own on these words but couldn't find anything relevant.

I'm gonna ask my parents tomorrow, they must know this word. It wouldn't hurt to learn its meaning.
