How about a non-Christian? Not necessarily Muslim or whatever, but what about someone who isn't religious? Call it atheism, agnosticism, or whatever..

Hmmm..religion, another interesting aspect of marriage.

What if your partner is orthodox while you are catholic...do you raise your children in the orthodox church or the catholic church? which beliefs do you follow? Do they get to celebrate 2 christmas'??

Well my dad went to the assyrian church and my mom was catholic and we were raised in the catholic church but we try to go to both churches ,so in the end i dont see it as a big issue and when the kids grow they could pick which church to go to. I continued going to the catholic church but once a year i go see Alina sing in the assyrian church of the east lol

There are plenty of people (mostly) women who find us Assyrian men demanding, controlling, and down-right stubborn.  Hell Yes!  Putting that aside, I would marry an Assyrian only due to the fact that we don't have any cross-cultural boundaries to work on.  But I have cousins and friends who married nakhrayeh and honestly, they become assyrian too!  We as a people's melt other's into our society because they want to learn who we are to better the relationship and make it easier overall.

Then we would have to use the second set of standards, which include, but are not limited to,  bust line, hip shape, and the ability to translate assyrian swears to english.

I can understand why this topic perennially comes up, cos it's an issue that many people face, but it does frustrate me a little.
People are more than just a culture. So, like many of you have said, it's important that the person you marry really understands you, respects you and brings out the best in you (and you to them, obviously). Just because someone is of the same culture, it doesn't automatically follow that they will have the same world view, hopes and aspirations, or priorities as you. Also, as some of you have said, you know Assyrians who have married nikhraye, and they're more Assyrian than Assyrians.
I myself am nikhretha, but I understand quite a lot of Assyrian, know all the dances, can cook dolma, am familiar with and accept aspects of Assyrian culture that differ from my own, and am really good at swearing in Assyrian  :argue:
If I end up having half Assyrian kids, I would definitely want them to be fluent in the Assyrian language, including literacy, to be confident in Assyrian contexts, and I would want them to take pride in their Assyrian heritage.
This has ended up sounding like a personals ad  :giggle: but it really wasn't meant to! I'm just trying to say keep an open mind.

If most Assyrians think the way some of the Assyrians here do, in a few years the only thing assyrian left will be those broken statues in the museum! Your ancestors would've been very proud of you! :clapping:

I am going to have to choose all the options is that ok?

Yes why not, they are human too
I never thought about it / Not an issue
for sure I'll marry whoever treats me better and whoever I'll follow in love with, but at the end I would like to get married to an Assyrian man cause its more enjoyable if he speaks Assyrian and use the word "Khayeeh"<--- isn't that a nice word to hear it from someone you love!? I can't live with out speaking my language.

I must marry a Puerto-Rican.

Or my mom will be disapointed in me.
