I wouldn't call them heroes, but they are my favourate people: Friedrich Nietzsche, Mikael Akerfeldt, and Bruce Lee..

As for HERO in the purest sense of the word..

CONAN THE BARBARIAN..

"What is love? What is creation? What is longing? What is a star? Thus asks the last man, and he blinks. The earth has become small, and on it hops the last man, who makes everything small"

My father.  Know one knows better than a man who had no father of his own and worked his ass off to better his life and his family's.  Big o Daddio, that's who.

The approach of this oneness of all Assyrians regardless of their religious adherence, is through the avenue of blood, and through the majesty of common memories. Media always focused on his negatives.  Along the same reasons as your "re-born thread".

Arafat dedicated his life to his people.  He survived assasination attempts.  He was hated and dispised by his enemies.  He had opposition within his own people, but he kept going and going until the day he died a martyr.  It was sweet justice for him when he won the Nobel Peace Prize along with Rabin and Peres who also worked tirelessly for peace.  The peace process fell apart when Bush and Sharon came into power in their respective countries.  I could write pages and pages dedicated to him but as frequent readers of my posts know about me, I long for the day that the Assyrian people can produce one Yasser Arafat.  He put the Palestinian issue in eerybody's eyes because his people were ignored (does this remind you of another persecuted and oppressed minority that originaes from the middle east?).  He then turned peace maker once he got the worlds attention.  He finished a martyr this year when he died after 2 years in virtual captivity.

mr. slana (high school history teacher) - the greatest person i've ever met ... since the first time i had his class in gr9, treated me with respect, didn't talk down to me as most teachers do with students .. treated me as an equal ...and the best teacher anyone could ever ask for ... always optimistic ... the type of person that answers "why not" when ppl ask "why"

mrs. selvaggi (high school english teacher) - she's the reason i want to become a teacher ... after reading "the alchemist" in class she bought me a copy of "the five people you meet in heaven" and wrote a message inside saying "some paths cross for a reason" ... and it was because of her i started reading ...

and last but certainly not least

my brother - we didn't have everything growing up but he always saw to it to get me the things i'd ask for (ahh how i regret askin for so much)... bought me the first NES, SNES and nintendo 64 systems ... bought me nikes .. and all those other things we asked for growing up ... and when i got older, he would talk to me ... bout everything... we drove to michigan a few times for parties, jus me and him .. and i remember those 5 hour car conversations about everything, stories from his childhood/ we'd talk about girls/ bout finances/ bout religion/ bout school/ about life ...he's got 4 kids now and the only thing i hope is to be there for them the way he was there for me ... he's the one person i never forget to remember ...
