Assyrian Genocide Monument Planned for Armenian Capital
Posted GMT 1-18-2007 17:12:41

The Atour Assyria Association in Armenia has been engaged in talks with the Armenian government to request permission to raise a monument for the victims of the Turkish genocide of Assyrians in World War One -- called Seyfo by Assyrians. Seventy five percent of Assyrians (750,000) were killed between 1915 and 1919 by Turks and Kurds.

The planned monument will be placed in the Armenian capital Yerevan, beside the monument for the victims of the Armenian genocide from the same time. The monument will be about 12 square meters long, 3 meters high and 1.5 meters wide. The Atour Assyria Association is now soliciting artists and architects for a design for the monument. Contributions should be sent to redaktionen@hujada.com.

Seriously, what took them so long and why haven't they recognized the genocide?

Chebo shami. Why I said chebo i dont know, its not in my tribal dialect :p but who cares. lol

Anywho, i met a few armenians the other day. Truely patriotic ones. They kept refering to me as arab....they're like "you're Syrian, so you're an arab" haha...i kept having to say "I'M ASSYRIAN, born in Syria!"

They still didn't understand me....so I used it back on them.

I said, "You're from Lebanon. So I guess you're arab as well?"

"No, we're Armenians."

"Exactly! I'm Assyrian!"

Uft, kma slow! lol Shami you're right, we need to depend on ourselves. If we depend on slow people like them, leh mantikh!

Is it me or does the figure seem to be exaggerated? 75% killed in 4 years!!! The other day I read that it was two thirds. It seems that they pushed up the figure up a bit to get the Armenian Govt's approval.

I've never been a great believer in the number of genocide victims reported by the groups afterwards (Holocaust, Armenian, Assyrian, Anfal Campaign, etc). By no means do I believe none of these happened, I do, but I believe the numbers get pushed up a bit to achieve certain political goals. Hopefully the Seyfo Center would be able to provide some accurate numbers.

I would be interested to know the outcome of this, as at this stage, they are just talks that could lead to nothing.

There's academic history.  And then there's political history.  Each have their own place.

That's all I'll say about that  :shades:
